I think one of the most personal wedding gifts is something pertinent to the couple's day - an album of photos, newspapers from that day, something that is clearly unique to the couple.
As a calligrapher I love working on personal gifts like this - a hymn from the wedding, the vows, etc. This piece is one of the readings from Holly and Henry's wedding - a gift from Gareth who read the piece for them during the service.
The piece is quite small - the idea being that it draws you in to the beautiful words, rather than them being visible across the room. (This is the same wedding as I did the name cards for - see a few posts back.)
It doesn't all have to be pens, ink and paper! This was the challenge when visiting my niece Lucy - to help her make a sign for their new hen house. First the name.... well the house is Bransdale Cottage, so Bransdale Cluckage seemed the perfect accompanying name. Then the letters - based on eggs of course! The whole thing is done on a piece of wood in acrylic paints and then varnished. We had great fun with it, and I assume the hens liked it because they chose to lay eggs in their newly named abode that very evening!
