It's a privilege to be asked to write in a memorial book, and you hope that the entry will bring back a happy memory or two to the people wanting to remember.
This book is for Holme Pierrepont parish and was started by a very good calligrapher (I don't know who) so I had some beautiful examples of entries to guide me.
Luckily the paper is great to write on, and so far, no messes!
It's quite challenging writing in a book rather than on a sheet of paper - I chose not to have it on my sloped drawing board, so had to be careful that the ink didn't rush out of my pen. Also, it's hard to find a comfortable writing position as the book is thick, and the page to be written sits 3-4cm higher than the table.
I'm Janet Smith, a calligrapher who loves to experiment with lettering and calligraphy.
