What does it cost?
There are a number of factors that contribute to the cost of creating a tree.
The product produced is completely bespoke, including choices you've made on size, colours and styles.
Any enquiries and initial discussions are free of charge - there's no obligation.
Janet is happy to provide as accurate an estimate as she can right at the beginning, so you can decide if this is something you'd like to pursue.
As a guide, a handwritten family tree with 60 simple entries (birth and death years) will be in the order of £680.
The same tree, with the picture delivered to you as a printed piece (rather than hand drawn) would be around £225 to design - the print price will depend on the number / size of prints wanted.
An A3 fine art print is £18, A2 is £32, but we're not restricted in size, shape or number of prints for your bespoke tree.
What information will I need to provide?
For an initial discussion it is enough to know roughly how many people are on the tree, what sort of information might be wanted for each person, and whether there are any decorative elements needed.
For example - "75 people with birth and death years only", or "35 people with birth, marriage and death full dates, locations and occupations".
Once ready to produce the tree, you'll have worked with Janet to create a list of exactly what will be included, and have seen a number of drafts to be certain that the final piece will be correct.
Janet understands that getting the information together is not always straightforward - it's far better to take the time and get everything right, and she will work with you to achieve that. She can work from old documents, hand written notes, screen shots, spreadsheets, Ancestry, Gedcoms - there is always a way.
Do we need to meet face to face?
While it would be a pleasure to meet every customer this is definitely not a requirement. Janet is tucked away in North Wales, and has customers all over the world. A friendly conversation over email is usually enough - sometimes phone calls and the sending of paper documents is helpful too.
Can the tree include images?
Definitely. For a printed tree the only challenge is to get the images of sufficient quality. For a hand written tree there are other options, including the hand painting of decorative elements such as family coats of arms.
Will I see the tree before it is finished?
Yes! You will see an electronic picture of the tree as many times as you need to as we work towards it being totally correct and beautiful. You then sign it off for printing or for hand writing (or even both).
How long does it take?
The process of getting to a signed off tree is usually a few weeks. Once the tree is signed off, allow a week for a printed tree or 3 weeks for a hand written tree. It is possible to work faster than this, if a special date is looming!
How is the piece delivered?
The piece is delivered to you in a postal tube ready for mounting/framing. It is usually sent with a signed for service.
The size of the piece will have been agreed between you earlier in the process. Janet is happy to offer advice on framing - you can either buy a frame of suitable size or - much better - wait for the piece to arrive and take it to a local framers where they will be delighted to help you complete the look for your heirloom.
Can I have more than one copy?
Of course! For a printed tree this is simple - just the additional cost of printing. For a hand written tree the cost is the time to write the tree for a second time, or the cost of scanning and printing.
What materials are used?
Hand written trees are created on high quality watercolour paper using fine art materials (which are fully lightfast).
Printed trees are created by a Fine Art printer using a warm white archival paper and inks which are lightfast for at least 75 years. The finished product is something that will exist in your family for a long time, so only the best materials are selected.
What do customers say?
Janet is very keen to hear from customers once they have received their tree. It is always helpful to hear if the process can be improved, and fabulous to hear if the customer is delighted! You can read recent reviews on the REVIEWS page (click here). If you wanted to talk to a recent customer, Janet is happy to arrange.
